It is advised that you make use of it in the creation of your own unique genjutsu in order to ensure fairness in the rp, however if you have good reason not to then it will be considered during the registration process.
Genjutsu Guidelines
Genjutsu typically comprise some of the least known and often most underestimated jutsu in the world. By using genjutsu the user may alter the mind of another or even themselves under certain circumstances, causing illusions to be created. Some may be weak, simply creating an insubstantial duplicate of the user, while others may be so powerful as to physically harm another, perhaps even killing them.
Creating Genjutsu
though it is entirely optional that you follow it, this is intended to help those who are unsure how to layout their own jutsu.
Most genjutsu must have a continued effect in order to be useful, for example Bunshin no Jutsu which creates illusionary duplicates of the user relies on the opponent for an extended period of time not being able to tell which is real and which is not.
As such there are three components to determining how the jutsu should function. Firstly, all genjutsu generally rely on willpower to determine their duration as follows. Base Duration + 1post/X users willpower – 1post /X opponents willpower. So for example, Bunshin no jutsu could have a base duration of 1 post, + 1 post for every 5 users willpower – 1 post for every 5 opponents willpower.
If this seems confusing, don't despair, it's really quite simple. Here's how it would work out in the following situation.
Users Willpower: 15
Opponents Willpower: 10
In this example Bunshin no Jutsu would last for 2 posts meaning that for two posts (the first post being the post it was first used in) the opponent would not be able to directly tell which of them were illusions and which were not.
Kai
To mix things up a bit, there is also Kai which may be used to help defeat an opponents genjutsu, however it is far from a sure thing and relies on the users chakra stats.
Kai works by providing a temporary bonus to the users willpower for the sole purpose of defeating genjutsu techniques. The amount gained is based on the users control stat. For every 3 control the user gains 1 additional point of willpower.
So here's another example continuing on from the one above.
Users Control: 15
With a control of 15 the user gains an additional 5 willpower thereby allowing them to reduce Bunshin no Jutsu's duration by 1 post.
There is one additional component to Kai however which may be used in more desperate circumstances. By using up some of their reserves, the user can add significantly more power to Kai, but in doing so they also risk exhaustion due to the amount of chakra that may be required. The user may choose how much of their reserves to use up in the following amounts.
25% Reserves
50% Reserves
75% Reserves
100% Reserves
That percentage of their reserve stat is then added onto their willpower along with their bonus from control. However the percentage also represents the amount of chakra used up, as such if someone were to use 100% of their reserves, they would immediately pass out after defeating the genjutsu.
Here's an example to make it clearer, following on from the ones above.
If the user had reserves of 10 they could therefore use up 50% of their reserves to gain an additional 5 willpower and defeat the bunshin no jutsu immediately, however they would also be much more worn out as a result.
Lastly when using Kai, it may be used on another person instead of yourself, and the bonuses from kai can stack upon the other persons willpower as well, meaning multiple people using kai could raise the persons willpower considerably and enable them to break out of very powerful genjutsu's.
Pain
There is one final aspect to defeating genjutsu's that is generally not favoured, but may be some characters only option, that being using pain to help dispel the genjutsu. Pain works in a similar way to Kai where it simply adds a bonus to your willpower, this time based upon a percentage of your stamina. The percentage bonus you receive is based on the degree of pain you inflict upon yourself as indicated by the following list.
Bruise - 5%
Slight Cut - 10%
Deeper Cut (Normal Chiyute cannot heal) - 20%
Sprained Joint - 35%
Dislocated Joint - 50%
Broken Bone - 65%
Crushed/Shattered Bone - 80% (Basically what happened to Lee)
Fatal Gash - 90%
So for example, if the user in the above example elected not to use their reserves, they would still have one post of the genjutsu to deal with. However, if their stamina was 10 for example, they could dislocate one of their joints and therefore receive +5 willpower (50% of 10 stamina) and defeat the genjutsu earlier, but like using reserves, this naturally comes at quite a price.
